![]() Who gets access to my information? My business is selling backpacking products and I have no interest or plan to distribute, rent or sell any information about you. As a long-time internet shopper myself, I get it! We all want our personal information to be private AND secure. When you subscribe for email to get Super Deals, you are only giving permission to receive my emails. I will not submit your email or information about you to any other companies or individuals. You will also NOT get emails from me regarding un-related topics like those that appear in the backs of numerous magazines! The "big" disclaimer, which all e-commerce companies should be up-front about, is that I may have to release your information for the following reasons: to comply with the law (ex. a legal subpoena); to collect for products (ex. fraudulent charge-back, stolen credit card, etc.); to protect my rights; or in connection with claims, disputes or litigation. None of these have anything to do with "re-purposing" your information. So ... what information is collected? Please feel comfortable that you can visit my site anonymously. You do not need to "register" nor are there any annoying pop-ups encouraging you to do so. The only time information is collected is when you sign up for Super Deal emails or place an order. In both instances, it will be clear what information is being collected since you have to enter it into the correct field :) Does your site use cookies? Yes. Cookies are small files that most sites place on your computer via your web browser ONLY IF you allow cookies (it is a browser option/preference setting). Cookies enable my site to figure out what browser you are using to make sure the site displays and works properly. Cookies capture and remember the products you have placed in your "backpack" to purchase. They are used to help compile data about my web site traffic and interaction so I can continually improve my web site. If you do not want to have cookies stored on your computer hard drive (they are very tiny files), cookies are easily removed with the current versions of the most popular web browsers. You should be able to selectively allow, disallow or remove cookies by web site or for alll web sites you have visited. How is my information protected? The company who is hosting my site is 100% PCI/CISP certified. The Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard is a joint creation of Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express and the goal is to protect cardholder data wherever it may reside. Using a PCI-certified hosting company costs me more money but I feel your trust is worth it. (During my hosting company research, I found that many web stores are NOT PCI/CISP compliant!). My site also uses 128-bit SSL (Secure Socket Layer) security with full https support .. more computer geek-speak meaning your data is very secure. Of course, if you are concerned about providing your credit card information over the internet, send me an email with your order, phone number and the best time to call you. Links to other web sites There may be instances where I have included links to other web sites to provide additional backpacking-orinteted infomraiton or prmote certain non-profit organizations. I have no responsibility or liability for the content and activities of these sites. I do wish to preserve the integrity of my site and business and welcome any feedback about these sites, especially if a link is broken.
